Dell to Launch Inspiron Minis to come in next week

It’s a small form factor notebook, just like the Asus Eee and the HP 2133. Pricing are going to start from $299 depending on what you will be choosing. You are looking at Intel’s Atom 1.6GHz processor, 512MB RAM, a 4GB SSD and a 8.9 inch display. Dell will market its netbook in two different models, one having an 8.9-inch display and the other a 12.1-inch one. Apparently, the 8.9-inch variant is meant provide users with an alternative to Asus’ Eee PC 900, while the 12.1-inch one is aiming at competing with the MacBook Air and Lenovo’s X300. Wi-FI 11g, BT, WiMAX and WWAN support, and can run either a Linux or a Windows XP operating system. They will come with built-in 0.3 MP web cameras and are said to provide a maximum of 9 hours of autonomy (for the 12.1-inch model, running on a 6-cell battery).

Most contentiously, space on the ‘board has been saved by axing the function keys. This has allowed other, perhaps more frequently used keys, to be larger.  According to APC, though, the shortcut buttons - activated by holding down the Fn key - are scattered around the keyboard and came across as somewhat illogically arranged.
