OCZ Technology announced the new Vertex SATA II 2.5-inch Solid State Drive series. The 2.5-inch SATA II crew is MLC NAND-based and includes up to 64MB of onboard cache, 200MB/sec read speeds, 160MB/sec write speeds and a 1.5 million hour mean time before failure (MTBF). The OCZ Vertex SSD is priced at $129 upwards all the way to $869 for the 250GB model.

Super Talent is going to ship the first “The Godfather” USB flash drive this month. The company has signed a licensing agreement with Paramount Licensing Inc. to produce and market USB flash drives preloaded with memorable quotes and still photos from “The Godfather”.

Super Talent Director of Marketing, Joe James explained, “The introduction of movie-themed USB drives marks the beginning of a new era for the Flash industry. These drives will capture the spirit of ‘The Godfather,’ and will be a sure hit with millions of Don Corleone fans.”

DigiTimes is reporting on Pioneer’s new layered optical disc. Each of the disc’s 16 layers holds 25GB, for a total storage capacity of 400GB. That’s 8x the storage on a double-layer Blu-Ray disc, which according to my CrunchGear companions holds an awful lot of porn. The new discs use a reflective layer, but should be compatible in existing Blu-Ray players, according to Pioneer.

I-O Data Japan announced a new 7200rpm SATAII 1.5TB HDD, the HDI-SAH7. Nothing special you may say, since 1.5TB HDDs are common these days. What hits me the most here is its price tag, 30,600 Yen (250 EUR), twice more expensive than the SEAGATE ST31500341AS 1.5TB SATA HDD in Akiahabra that costs only 14,800 Yen (120 EUR).

I know many brands are screwing us with expensive prices, but here… Ouch! That hurts.

Japanese website PC Watch reveals that Buffalo has decided to release an Intel-designed 80GB Solid State Disk under its own branding.

The SHD-NSMR80G drive from Buffalo is a multi-level cell (MLC) designed SSD, 2.5-inch in size. Using the SATA II interface, it boasts a rated sequential read speed of 253MB/sec and random read speed of 241.7 MB/s.

A decent bundle of software from Acronis also accompanies the drive which includes MigrateEasy data migration, TrueImage LE data backup, DiskDirector LE partition management and DriveCleanser data secure-deletion softwares.

The drive is now available in Japan at a cost of 103,950 JPY (around $1,040).

If you’re looking for a new Blu-ray burner to perhaps finally jump into the whole Blu-ray burning thing, then you might be interested in the Pioneer BDR-03J. This burner is capable of up to 8x speeds. Impressed yet?

This Blu-ray PC burner is really fast. It can burn Blu-ray media at up to 8x speed. But it is also capable of burning DVD-R at 16x and even CD-R at 32x. That’s pretty cool, even if you don’t make mix CDs very much anymore.

This serial-ATA optical drive is expected to be released in January sometime, though only Japan. There’s no information on whether or not this fast Blu-ray burning wonder will make it stateside, but we will certainly keep our fingers crossed.
