We always loved us that Voodoo-designed HP Blackbird 002, but it was certainly a behemoth. Now it looks like the duo are going for a more realistic size — and hopefully pricepoint — with the all-new HP Firebird PC 803 that just fell in our lap, a gaming tower which flips the disc drive and most other components on their sides to save on space. The resulting kit seems to have more in common with gaming consoles than desktop PCs in terms of design, with very little configurability or expansion available, but the leaked specs are still quite palatable to the modern PC gamer:

* NVIDIA nForce 760i SLI chipset
* Core 2 Quad Q9550 2.83GHz processor
* 4GB of RAM
* Dual NVIDIA GeForce 9800S cards
* Two 320GB SATA drives
* Blu-ray
* 5-in-1 card reader
* 6 USB, 1 FireWire, 2 eSATA, 1 S/PDIF and 1 DVI dual-link
* Bluetooth
* 802.11n WiFi

To save on space (and heat), the Firebird actually uses an external power supply, but we suppose the included wireless keyboard and mouse should help to make up for that clutter. As you’ve probably gleaned from the specs, those small form factor 9800S cards aren’t going to be putting away the frame rates quite like the cutting edge cards from NVIDIA and AMD, and the seeming lack of expandability makes the (theoretical) up-front cost savings seem a bit less exciting, but for a certain type of gamer the Firebird could be a welcome respite from monstrous, unrealistic and just-as-quickly-outmoded performance towers.

NVidia boasts its 1,5GB Quadro FX 4800 workstation graphics card that features a 602MHz GPU clock speed, 192 stream processors, an 800MHz GDDR3 clock speed, 384-bit memory controller and a PCI Express 2.0 x16 connector. You can buy it for a hefty $3,499 a pop.

Wireless Illuminated Super Tiny Keyboard is tiny, slim and portable. An illuminated version of this small 56 key computer accessory will soon be available. The keyboard uses 2.4GHz radio frequency that allows you to use it as far as 10 meters radius. The Wireless Illuminated Super-Tiny Keyboard can now be pre-ordered form the USB Brando website for $47. The product will ship at the end of December.

Japan’s Ratoc Systems has recently shown off its certified wireless USB starter kit, the REX-WUSB1. The Ratoc REX-WUSB1 wireless USB hub comes in two pieces, a wireless USB PC Card and a wireless USB hub that can also be wired.
The kit is compatible with Windows XP or Vista PCs after the included drivers are installed.
Ratoc uses ultra wideband chipsets from NEC and Realtek for the new product, which is compatible with USB 1.0, 2.0 and WiMedia’s UWB platforms and supports data transfer speeds up to the peak 480Mbps of USB 2.0 and the Wireless USB spec.
The REX-WUSB1 will be priced at the equivalent of $345.

United Keys show a keyboard with 103 standard keys and 9 display keys with monochrome (yellow) OLED keys. Up for pre-order, the OLED Display keyboard and keypad both feature USB connectivity, blue LEDs on their sides, work with both Windows XP and Vista and come with nine OLED keys. Basically, these “display keys” are Organic Light Emitting Diode (OLED) image-based keys that serve as shortcuts to designated applications.

The good news is that if you don’t want the full keyboard (and who can blame you?), you can order just the keypad of nine OLEDs. They’re taking orders now, and apparently shipping within two weeks. The full keyboard is going to run you $259.99, while the OLED keypad is $199.99.

Today, SRS Labs announces the iWOW Adapter for the iPod. This device is a hardware-based version of their “award winning” iWOW plug-in for iTunes, bringing the same “expansive sound stage” experience that you’ve been enjoying on your home computer to your iPod Classic, iPod 5G, or iPod nano 3G.
SRS Lab’s iWOW Adaptor for iPod will be shipped in Mid-December 2008. The iWOW Adapter is available for pre-order now at a price of $79.99.

For multi-monitor fans, workaholics, and Bill Gates, two screens may already look cramped with all apps they are running - three is the magic number for these folks. Bill actually has a three screen setup with a list of e-mails on the left monitor, the specific email opened in the center, and a browser on the right-hand LCD. However, if you are just beginning to look into multi-monitor setup, Witech Multi-i Two-channel USB external video card from Korea has you covered.

Think of Witech Multi-i as two IOGear USB 2.0 Video Card squeezed in a single package. The Witech basically has two D-sub connectors for hooking up to two monitors; its on-board dual USB ports are designed to daisy-chain two more of these video adapters. Maximum resolution you get from each video connection is 1400×1050 (interestingly, 1366×768 and 1280×768 are also supported). The Witech Multi-i will require an AC adapter to give the unit juice for all the extra load. Since it is essentially powered by Displaylink core, you can expect Mac compatibility out of the box.
